6 Troubleshooting

If you are experiencing difficulties with your camera, check the following table for possible solutions.

Camera
Problem Cause Solution
The camera does not turn on.

The batteries are not properly installed.

Remove and reinstall the batteries.

The camera does not work.

The batteries are low or dead.

The batteries need to be replaced.

The camera is not turned on.

Turn on the camera.

The shutter button does not work.

The camera is not turned on.

Turn on the camera.

The Power/Mode switch is not set to .

Set the Power/Mode switch to .

The green Ready light is blinking. The camera is processing a picture.

Wait until the Ready light stops blinking before attempting to take another picture.

The red Ready light is on. The internal memory or Picture Card is full.

Transfer pictures to a computer, delete pictures, or insert a Picture Card with available memory.

The Menu screen is displayed.

Turn off the Menu screen by pressing the MENU button.

Camera
Problem Cause Solution
The Pictures Remaining indicator does not decrease after taking a picture.

The quality setting does not use up enough space for the Pictures Remaining indicator to decrease.

The camera is operating normally. Continue taking pictures.

The number of pictures remaining is more than 999.

The Pictures Remaining indicator begins counting when the number of pictures remaining is below 998. The camera is operating normally.

The power suddenly turns off.

The camera was not operated for more than five minutes and the Auto Power Off function turned off the power.

Set the Power/Mode switch to OFF and then back to or .

Part of the picture is missing.

Something was blocking the lens when the picture was taken.

Keep hands, fingers, or other objects away from the lens when taking pictures.

Your eye or the picture was not centered correctly in the viewfinder.

Leave space around the subject when centering a picture in the viewfinder.

Camera
Problem

Cause

Solution

The picture is too dark.

The flash is not on or did not function.

Turn on the flash.

The subject is too far away for the flash to have an effect.

Move to within 8 ft (2.4 m) of subject.

The subject is in front of a bright light.

Change your position so light is not behind the subject.

The picture is too light.

The flash is not needed.

Change to Auto flash.

The subject was too close when the flash was used.

Move at least 5 ft (1.5 m) from the subject.

Stored pictures are damaged.

The Picture Card was inserted or removed when the green Ready light was blinking.

Make sure the Ready light is not blinking before inserting or removing a Picture Card.

The picture is not clear.

The lens is dirty.

Clean the lens.

The subject was too close when a picture was taken.

Stand at least 2 ft (0.6 m) away from the subject.

The subject or camera moved while a picture was taken.

Hold the camera steady until a picture is taken.

Subject was too far away for the flash to have an effect.

Move to within 8 ft (2.4 m) of the subject.

Cannot delete a picture.

The picture is delete-protected.

Cancel the protection setting.

Camera Communications
Problem Cause Solution
The computer cannot communicate with the camera.

The camera is not set to PC Connect mode.

Set the camera to PC Connect mode.

The camera is not connected to a serial cable, or the cable is not connected to a computer serial port.

Connect the serial cable to the camera and computer port.

The port setting in the software is set to an incorrect COM port.

Change the COM port setting to Auto-Search or to a specific COM port.

The communication speed setting in the software is not adjusted.

Set the speed setting to 9,600 bps. If communication is successful, gradually raise the speed to optimize communication time.

There is a conflict with another serial device, such as infrared communication, internal fax modem, or other communication system.

Refer to the serial device and/or operating system User's Guide, or consult the computer manufacturer.

The software that generates frequent interrupts (such as a Web browser or e-mail software) is running.

Exit that software before starting the KODAK Software.

Camera Communications
Problem Cause Solution
The computer cannot communicate with the camera.

The computer is connected to a LAN or to a special network line.

Communications may be hindered due to the generation of forcible interrupts in the environment where the computer is connected to the LAN or to a special network line.

Some Advanced Power Management utilities on laptops can turn off ports to save battery life.

See the Power Management section of the laptop User's Guide to disable this feature.

The Battery Monitor or other such software runs constantly.

Close that software before starting the KODAK Software.

Computer Monitor
Problem Cause Solution
The image on the monitor is jagged or inappropriately colored.

The monitor is not set correctly.

Refer to the computer User's Guide for information on how to adjust the monitor display settings.

Picture Card
Problem Cause Solution
The camera does not recognize the Picture Card.

The Picture Card is not CompactFlash certified.

Purchase a certified CompactFlash Picture Card.

The Picture Card is corrupt or formatted for use in other digital cameras.

Reformat the Picture Card.

The Picture Card is not inserted in the camera.

Insert a Picture Card.

Warning Messages
Message Cause Solution

Internal memory is full./ Memory card is full.

The internal memory or Picture Card is full and cannot hold additional pictures.

Transfer pictures to a computer, delete pictures, or insert a Picture Card with available memory.

Access error on memory card. Card requires formatting.

The Picture Card is corrupted.

Insert a new Picture Card or reformat the existing card.
